Wallace Fellowships

Wallace Fellowships are designed for scholars who explore the historiography and impact of the Italian Renaissance in the Modern Era (19th-21st centuries). They are made possible by a generous grant from The Lila Wallace – Reader’s Digest Fund.
Projects could address a range of topics from historiography to the reaction to, transformation of, and commentary on the Italian Renaissance and its ties to modernity. Also welcome are projects on museum and collecting history and on the survival of the Renaissance in modern art and architecture (including photography and landscape architecture), in literature and music, and in philosophy and political thought.

This is a residential fellowship of 4 or 6 months in length. Up to four fellowships will be awarded every year. The stipend is USD 4,200 per month, plus a one-time supplement (maximum USD 1,500) towards relocation expenses. In light of the residential nature of the fellowship Fellows must live in the Florence area and spend at least three days a week at the center.
